The world according to satkinson
Mountain/Desert/Ocean/Jungle... which one are you?
Mountain - nothing can beat the rugged beauty of white ice and snow on black rock.
What was your first great travel experience?
An overland trip from London to Kathmandu when I was 19 - most of it was pretty hard (group travel at its most extreme!) - I left early but saw some incredible places and it gave me the courage to travel on my own.
What has been your favourite journey?
First trip to the Antarctic Peninsular - nothing can prepare you for the sheer pristine beauty of the place. I'll never forget that morning - waking up after days at rough sea to that view...
What are your Top 5 places worldwide?
Iceland as it is so beautiful and rugged (and especially the iceberg-strewn beach at Jokulsarlon). Chilean Lake District for its idyllic scenery, anywhere in Patagonia for its wildness, Japan for its wackiness, Nepal for the Himalayas - but so many more...
Recommend a special place to stay
Refugio Tinquilco in the Huerquehue National Park near Pucon - my favourite spot in the world! They have delicious food, lovely staff, the setting is unbeatable and it's cheap! And Guesthouse Hali, near Jokulsarlon in Iceland - lovely little spot and very close to the action!
Which three items do you always pack?
Camera, JB (small felt crocodile who lives in a plastic bag on the road) and bottle opener (love the Chilean red wine too!)
Which passport stamp are you proudest of?
South Pole - not a real one, as no-one owns it, but still pretty special. Plus just got Greenland (well, it's a Denmark EU one, but still proud!)
Which passport stamp would you most like to have?
Bhutan & Yemen
Where or what is your guilty travel pleasure?
Going back to places I love again and again. Just been back to Iceland for 5th time (many more to come!)
Window or aisle?
Window - especially if flying from London to the middle or west coast of the US as you go over Greenland (if you're lucky!)
