Just been looking at your Sri Lankan galleries, Sophie, as I've just found out I've been successful in a bid for funding next year (school partnership). Your photographs are stunning and have certainly whetted my appetite for Sri Lanka!

Thanks Helen, and congrats! The train-ride I did through the highlands was definitely one of the highlights. It's a very varied country - something for everyone surely! Yummy food, beautiful beaches, high peaks, endless hiking, cultural relics, safari, boutique hotels, etc... When will you be going there?

Not sure, Sophie. I'd ideally like to go at Easter before the monsoon session kicks in. It would also give me the chance to spend the 2nd week visiting the country. However, it all depends on when the money comes through.

The trainride did look spectacular in your photos. Do you think it is safe for a women to travel by train by herself in Sri Lanka, or would it be better to join a tour when I'm out there? (If I get the chance to spend some time on my own). I'm quite happy pottering around parts of Europe on my own - but Asia is an unknown entity for me!
