I love the colour contrast between the gold statue and the greyness of the cityscape!

    Hi Sophie,

I use a Fuji bridge camera, which I guess looks like a DSLR rather than a compact and didn't have any problems. Lots of people with DSLRs about so I don't think its an issue in Lisbon or Cascais or Sintra districts.

I was on my own some of the time and never felt at all vulnerable even when wandering down travessas (narrow streets). I felt much safer with the camera than when I was in the Mission district of San Fran.

We had no problems on the buses (we didn't use a tram as they were all very full), but on the way to Belem after a couple of young ladies got off the bus a local chap approached two Japanese girls and warned them about pickpockets - the girls had handbags and cameras on view. I keep all my stuff in a lowepro slingshot camera bag which I move to the front when on any public transport. It is obviously a well-known problem though, as there are signs on the funicular "Gloria" and also when we were having coffee in Belem a young lady asked the owner for directions for the tram back to Lisbon and he told her to watch out for the pickpockets.

    Hope that helps.

    BB xx
