View from Hay Bluff by satkinson
This is the view once you've gone over the end of Hay Bluff and the world suddenly drops away beneath you to reveal unfeasibly picturesque green hills and valleys for as far as the eye can see.

You were quite lucky by the looks of it, usually Hay Bluff is heaving with paragliders.

There were 3 paragliders further along the ridge, and one at Hay Bluff, but it was a Monday - I imagine it'd be a bit less idyllic at weekends!

I love the lines and perspective in this shot, Sophie, and the mood it creates.

I need to see this image FILLING THE SCREEN of a huge monitor. I'm sure my tiny notebook doesn't do it justice.Your images are always interesting, Sophie. I'm more of a wordsmith, so tend to spend my time reading Experiences and Just Backs, but I make an exception when I see something really beautiful or intriguing on the latest gallery section. Like this set.

Thanks Liz! Yes, it does look better when it fills a big screen. I just spent a day in an office with 30 inch monitors and looked through some of my photos (instead of my 16 inch laptop) and it was lovely to see them so big! You definitely get more of an impact with a bigger screen - especially when the view is so incredible, as this was. We'd met a hiker near this spot, before we got to the end of the ridge and saw this view and he said "ah, just you wait until you get to Hay Bluff - the world just slips away in front of you and you can see for miles", so I spent the next fifteen minutes with great anticipation - I was certainly not disappointed! The clouds really helped to give it some depth, I think. It was a wonderful spot; I could've stayed there for hours, but had sisters with impatient kids picking us up soon after. Cheers, Sophie

It looks as though we missed each other by a day or so at Yellowstone. We were there 25 - 29 June. We left just before the 4th of July weekend and as we drove out we could not believe the queues of cars coming in for the weekend. I too was amazed at how many people were around, in fact, as we were out on a photo safari early that morning we didn't get to Old Faithful until lunchtime and were amazed at the number of people on the benches waiting. Afterwards it was really quite unpleasant walking on the boardwalks with so many people. we went back early the next morning and it was much better and deserted. Something else that amazed me was the number of RVs.
