Travel C.V. Peterj2002

About me: As a youngster my favourite subject at school was geography and I was always interested in faraway places with strange sounding names. As Dad was in the forces I spent some time abroad which fuelled the interest. Not being able to do what I wanted to do when I left school, I slipped into banking and spent 31 years mainly in London. 30 were great but the last year became a Pain in the A… when targets and sales suddenly became everything. When working we travelled whenever we could and along the way forgot to have a family. Oh well! Anyway it meant that we could join the scrapheap early and see as much of the world as we could. I keep some of our travel photos on peterandjillphotos.smugmug.com which you are welcome to view.

The world according to Peterj2002

Mountain/Desert/Ocean/Jungle... which one are you?
Jungle but then again Desert or if pushed Mountain. Okay, all of them really.

What was your first great travel experience?
As a five or six year old watching ships sailing through the desert (sitting by the Suez Canal). Dad was in the RAF so I picked up the travel bug early. Also had a great geography teacher who has cost me a fortune!

What has been your favourite journey?
Our first trip to Madagascar in the early 80's when we felt like we were the only five tourist on the island. Four humming the theme tune to Dr Kildare as one of our fellow travellers cut Jigger flea eggs from the bottom of my foot under a 5 watt lamp as I sipped a scotch. Happy days. Have visted Madagascar three times and always want to go back.

What are your Top 5 places worldwide?
South Georgia- we were there with perfect weather and it was heaven. Madagascar, can bring tears to the eyes and we must go back one more time. India- it's got everything and your first view of the Taj Mahal is .................. Mexico and the Maya empire just stunning. Wiltshire, yes really!

Recommend a special place to stay
The Rusty Parrot, Jackson Hole. Don't ask why.

Which three items do you always pack?
Camera, open mind and dollars.

Which passport stamp are you proudest of?
The Falklands which is next to the Argentina stamp in the PP!

Which passport stamp would you most like to have?
Papua New Guinea or.....................

Where or what is your guilty travel pleasure?
A bottle of rum!
