The world according to Lyn Hughes

Mountain/Desert/Ocean/Jungle... which one are you?
There's something magical about deserts...

What was your first great travel experience?
Hong Kong - my first flight, my first longhaul trip, and the first time I experienced culture shock. I loved it - and cried at the airport heading home

What has been your favourite journey?
Most of New Zealand in a tiny Suzuki dubbed Snoozy Suzy. And then there was the Four Corners USA, Thailand on an elephant, outback Australia...

What are your Top 5 places worldwide?
South Luangwa National Park, Zambia (leopards, superb wildlife, walking safaris); Kaikoura, New Zealand (whales & other marine life, all against a stunning backdrop); South Georgia (awesome); Atacama Desert, Chile (magical); the Galapagos Islands

Recommend a special place to stay
Number 43 in Arnside, Cumbria. Tafika- a wonderful lodge in South Luangwa, Zambia

Which three items do you always pack?
A notebook of course! (Even when my friends beg me to leave it behind). A scarf to protect against sun, sand, dust, wind. A small torch - you never know what's going to go bump in the night.

Which passport stamp are you proudest of?
South Georgia

Which passport stamp would you most like to have?
Ethiopia, Namibia, Libya... too many to mention

Where or what is your guilty travel pleasure?
A glass of good wine and some smoked salmon at the seafood bar at Heathrow

Window or aisle?
Aisle. Can't stand being hemmed in.
