Good Heavens, man - this isn't a professional photography forum. Have a word with yourself.

Sergeant..who said that quality is beeing reserved only for the  profs?... it means that we , amateurs, can afford forgeting about rules ? and I think that my opinion can  help  to achieve  better results next time...nothing more...

Ok, just thinking you might want to tone down the crit a bit that all. If you're a decent photographer, offer some advice - all this 'lost control' and 'something wrong' with no constructive remedial advice comes across as being a bit harsh.

Sergeant...ok..why not...thera are some filters..ND and graduated  - it is a wonderfull way to control the high dynamic range .. you can push away the sun behind the  frame , leaving only clear smoth light ( it can tell - the sun is just a socond from here)  with no unnecessary distracting ( clipping ) .. there is a typical silhouette shot with limited amount of details - you can use   braceting as well with no fear of losing some details ...there are  - as you see -quite  huge range of approach. I would say nothing about the burnings  if the sun was a plain circle - you can do it very easily..

As to the composition...there are some rules , guidelines which keeps the image more understandable...which  allow your eye not to feel lost when watching it. I mean e.g. strong points or strong lines...Of course  there is no reason to keep them for any price during each shot ..you can brake them if the scene or theme requires this.. but I see no excuse for this in this picture....

I want to say that I am not a fan for technics in the picture  for any price.. It is my custom to  sense the photographs more emotionally then intellectually but when the scene is so simple .. and the story is so clear and almost ascetic in itc expression some rules should be used anyway.... And  at the end - I do not want to tell  an Author - you are a bad  photographer ...no.. absolutely no!!.. Do not get me this way, please!!! I want to help only ..to hint some solution for future..

sergeant... I put two pictures into my gallery, with the sun - esspecially to confirm my theory   ... they are not great enough  but you can see that "fighting" with the sun can be won :-)...they were taken without any filter  ( oh!.. probably , I don`t exactly remember, I had CPL an my lens.....but CPL is a must for each photographer  :-) )

Wow! Only just seen these comments! In all honesty, this wasn't my favourite of the bunch...I like it, but I do agree that the composition isn't quite right! I think it was one of those picture that just 'got taken'.

The thing that makes me laugh in it though is the guy holding out his little fish-eye cam in front of him - over a bottle of wine (or 3) that night we looked through them and they were hilarious!
