About me: I'm a civil servant based in Belfast but the dream is to one day become a freelance travel writer - somehow being stuck behind the same computer at the same desk behind the same four walls just doesn't seem to cut it anymore..! The world according to keithruffles

Mountain/Desert/Ocean/Jungle... which one are you?
I've always loved the mountains so that would probably win, but it's a toughie - perhaps a destination that combines all of these would be best?

What was your first great travel experience?
Visiting Morocco at the age of 4 back in 1987 - unspurprisingly I don't remember a great deal but I bet it was a great trip. Perhaps I'll have to go back and do it as an adult sometime...

What has been your favourite journey?
Spending 2 months in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania on a research project - the people I met were some of the friendliest anywhere and the food was fantastic.

What are your Top 5 places worldwide?
United Kingdom Iceland Canada Belarus Norway

Recommend a special place to stay
Bardsey Island - I've visited twice and it'd be great to go back again. It's a lovely little place and seems a world away from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

Which three items do you always pack?
Toothbrush, clothes - and tea bags!

Which passport stamp are you proudest of?
Thanks to Schengen I've only ever had a few - though I'm rather pleased with my Belarussian and Russian visas as they were fairly difficult to get.

Which passport stamp would you most like to have?
Where to start? Papua New Guinea, China, Central Asia, most of Africa... the list is endless!

Where or what is your guilty travel pleasure?
Tea. I know being English makes it pretty stereotypical but I just can't help myself.

Window or aisle?
Always the window - why would any real traveller want to miss out on seeing the world go by?
