The world according to KarinW

Mountain/Desert/Ocean/Jungle... which one are you?
I was born in and grew up surrounded by mountains - they'll always be special. But you can't beat waking up to the sound of waves pounding on rocks...

What was your first great travel experience?
Trekking across the Karoo desert in the family car on the way to the Kruger Park, nose pressed to the window, marvelling at the canopy of stars in South Africa.

What has been your favourite journey?
A uni trip to Zimbabwe (when it was paradise)... it was my first "grown-up" trip - ie without the folks. And overlanding in Peru... And seeing the wildebeest migration in Kenya... and... and... and!

What are your Top 5 places worldwide?
Uros floating islands, Lake Titicaca, Peru; Victoria Falls, Zim; Stone Town, Zanzibar; Cusco, Peru; and my hometown, Cape Town.

Recommend a special place to stay
Cove Bay treehouses, Kenya

Which three items do you always pack?
Camera, kikoi, comfy shoes - practical beats frivolous hands down.

Which passport stamp are you proudest of?
Machu Picchu - they stamp your passport as you go through the gate. And Libya – I went before the shit hit the fan...

Which passport stamp would you most like to have?
Cambodia and Galapagos

Where or what is your guilty travel pleasure?
A five-star safari in Kenya - I'm a backpacker at heart, but you can't beat a bit of luxury every now and then!

Window or aisle?
Aisle - I get fidgety on flights and like to move around a lot.
