Aargh!  I don't think mucking about with the colour has done anything to add to the drama of this sky.  Not sure what kind of effect you were trying to achieve, but I think it's a shame you didn't leave it well alone.  (Just my opinion, of course.)

Agreed Rhoda. Sorry JM this sort of thing is OK on flickr but does nothing for me on a travel site. It could be anywhere and I just don't like the cloud effect at all.  I'm also not a fan of your use of mixing upper and lower case letters either, but each to his/her own.

Why have you changed the picture? My comment was for a different one with a mahogany coloured sky - it's pointless changing the picture and keeping the comments!

I quite like your creative photo-editing, JMANCHETA. I can see why it is not everyone's 'cup of tea', but all art is very subjective – and creative photo-editing (or photoshoppery as we call it on MyWanderlust) is a form of art.

[Apologies to the venerable Great Lord Trekker of Fintown – the 6th commandment was made to be broken!]

If people are open about it, I think we can just enjoy creative photo-editing for what it is and appreciate the good stuff – as with any form of art.

But, like bilbo, I do like to know something about the photo though – like where in the world it was taken, and why etc. Cheers.

PS.   If you put your original photo back in the gallery we can compare the two images.

Once the great artists had mastered painting portraits and scenes with such accuracy and advanced technique so that they actually looked like photographs, artists moved on to interpret reality in a different way: through impressionism, cubisim, surrealism etc.

I can't see why photographers can't interpret photos in the same way as artists have done. We can just step out the door (or get on a plane) to see what a scene looks like. I like it when photographs are interpreted - it makes it much more interesting.

All worthy discussion but as many people have pointed out in the past, this is a travel site and this image, and certainly the one that was in place when Rhoda and BB commented, tells or indeed shows me nothing about the Philippines, if that is where it was shot....

Before photography was invented travellers used to take a pencil and sketch book with them. (Not that I remember!) So, when they got back, it wasn't a case of showing their Grand Tour holiday snaps, more an invitation to  "come up and see my etchings sometime."

These sketches were not technically accurate photographic images but rather the artist's interpretation of what they saw - as Helen mentions.

I think all that JMANCHETA needs to do is to put some form of explanatory description to his photos. Some people will get it, some won't - that's art - for some reason (fortunately) we all like different things.

I'm generally in agreement with you Helen about interpretation, there are some fantastic examples of HDR out there; although I prefer my landscapes to be more 'au natural' as I like to see places as they are especially if I'm not likely to go there myself.

The comment was about this photograph which JM then changed to the one above. I personally don't like the effect he has tried to create, and without a description it does not come across as a travel photo - similar can be said for the pig gallery - which is why I commented that these images are OK on a site like Flickr as that is a photography site, but maybe not so appropriate on a travel site like this.

Saying that JM, I wish you lots of happiness in your photography - it can be a very rewarding and obsessive hobby! And do keep posting on here, but maybe more travel related, with a description for us?
