Coniston

How long were you there for?
Meant to be two nights but a car breakdown made it one

What was the single highlight of your trip?
Climbing up the Old Man

Any lowlights/cautionary tales?
Cheap cars are cheap for a reason

Any absolutely MUST see sights/activities?
The Old Man for me, but there is plenty of stuff for fans of Ruskin or Donald Campbell which people seemed to be lapping up. A pint of Bluebird Bitter in the Black Bull is a must post-walk!

Any absolutely DON'T see sights/activities?
No

If you could give one piece of advice, what would it be?
Take your waterproofs

Any other comments?
The Coniston Coppermines YHA looks like a great place to stay

Never been, so it's another one for that never-ending list. Like the sound of a Black Bull.

A post-walk pint in a good pub is always a good idea!

Sounds like you had a great time, despite it being so short! I love the Lakes - hope you get to make it back. There's a fantastic Lakes and Ale trail starting near Windermere you should check out on your next visit.

The Old Man is one of my favourites -wasn't it Kanchenjunga in Ransome's Swallowdale? That's what led me up there first.

I tend to skirt the fella and approach via Goat's Water. Have camped up there many an evening and fished those little tarns for wild trout on the dry fly. And yes, it is hard to ignore the call of the Black Bull for some Bluebird
