The world according to hmk

Mountain/Desert/Ocean/Jungle... which one are you?
It's a hard choice, I love them all, but it would have to be ocean - I just feel completely relaxed in a boat.

What was your first great travel experience?
A school exchange trip to West Berlin in the days when the city was still split. We had a day trip to Communist East Berlin, which still ranks as one of the most extraordinary travel experiences of my life, it was like a different world.

What has been your favourite journey?
Sailing on the tall ship Europa from the south of Argentina across to the Antarctic. The Southern Ocean was a little bumpy! But the amazing encounters with penguins and icebergs made it all worthwhile. Actually we had a literal encounter with an iceberg - one bumped into as as we were at anchor overnight!

What are your Top 5 places worldwide?
Vietnam; Antarctica; Stockholm; Scotland; Peru

Recommend a special place to stay
Vietnam

Which three items do you always pack?
Camera, phrase book, toothbrush

Which passport stamp are you proudest of?
Solomon Islands

Which passport stamp would you most like to have?
Tibet - ever since I saw "Seven Years in Tibet"!

Where or what is your guilty travel pleasure?
Despite the fact that I adore trying the local food, and will eat nearly anything (!), I have a tendency to take a packet of Pringles with me! Mind you, it nearly got my barred from entering Australia! - the foil-line cylinder was picked up when they checked the luggage and I had failed to declare them as food being brought into the country!

Window or aisle?
Aisle - I'm quite tall, so I like the leg room!
