The world according to GaryWhelan

Mountain/Desert/Ocean/Jungle... which one are you?
I love all - trekking in mountains in Uzbekistan, watching the wildlife in Borneo rainforest, the serenity of the dester and am a keen diver so the sea too!

What was your first great travel experience?
Being taken on a family holiday to Tunisia in the late 60's. Although only a short flight away it was such a different culture I wanted to constantly explore.

What has been your favourite journey?
Driving along the Garden Route in South Africa takes some beating!

What are your Top 5 places worldwide?
Uzbekistan, South Africa, Borneo, India, Kenya

Recommend a special place to stay
Take a Zamani Suite at the Zamani Kempinksi in Zanzibar. If you have been on safari it is the perfect place to recharge your batteries and see the sights of Zanzibar too!

Which three items do you always pack?
A good novel, digital camera and my Rohan goas!

Which passport stamp are you proudest of?
My Uzbekistan Visa - it was hassle to get but in some ways made me feel even more intrepid!

Which passport stamp would you most like to have?
Kyrgyzstan - I am fascinated by the country and it's mountains.

Where or what is your guilty travel pleasure?
I stayed at Cape Grace in Cape Town - expensive but just a perfect hotel.
