We arrived on Caye Caulker, greeted with an icebox full of beer and a bag of 'something local'. We thought we'd landed in paradise and on the first night we sat on the wooden jetty and watched the stars.

For the next three nights the mosquitoes were so bad we slept fully clothed and never left our cabanyas. We left shortly afterwards, having been told by the locals that we'd arrived in 'mosquito season'!

I hope your stay was more successful! Did you see the massive blue crabs come out from the undergrowth at night?

Didn't see any massive blue crabs. Shame, they sound interesting!

I'll agree about the mosquitoes! I was covered from the neck down when we arrived quite late in the evening (boat from San Pedro at about 6 - it was dark), and managed to get bitten on my forehead within 5 minutes. Huge volumes of deet-based spray we employed. and eventually gave me a rash! Beautiful place though.
