Mountain, having been brought up on weekends in the Lake District!
What was your first great travel experience?
Hitch hiking across the newly opened Bosphorus Bridge on the back of a lorry full of apples, most of which bounced off onto the highway
What has been your favourite journey?
A great trip, and all on public transport, from Nepal to Tibet to Xinjiang, and down into Pakistan via the KKH. Bewildering range of peoples and landscapes!
What are your Top 5 places worldwide?
Inner Hebrides, Pamir Mountains, Tulum, Mount Elbrus, Morocco
Recommend a special place to stay
Tyn y Cornel Youth Hostel, out in the wilds of Mid Wales - now thankfully saved by a charitable trust after the YHA disgracefully chose to drop it (together with lots of other fine and irreplacable hostels)
Which three items do you always pack?
Ear plugs, camera of course, and unfortunately now its got to be reading glasses too
