Travel C.V. DrG

About me: I've managed to steer my research so that I have worked on every single continent except for S America, and that will change next year. My job is first and foremost as an aquatic ecologist, having started my career with a 16 month stint on an Australian base in Antarctica for my PhD research. I have had to succumb to the academic progression of becoming a lecturer, but manage to combine work and travel by leading reserach expeditions with motivated students to the Kenyan Rift Valley lakes, and teach tropical ecology in Borneo for two weeks every year.

Taking a 30 year old, 2wd Subaru and introducing Samantha to all my favourite places and friends in Kenya

Antarctica (unofficial) - just a pity it is now in my defunct English passport and not in the pink pamphlet!

Where or what is your guilty travel pleasure?
Bombay Sapphire - be it jungle gin i.e. warm and very little tonic, or with an appropriate loading of glacial ice and lime

  • Thank you Mr Longstaff!

I loathed French! It wasn’t the fact that I had to learn another language, as I already had some Latin under my belt. It was because I wanted to learn Spanish.
  • An hour in the company of Kenyans

An alternative to uploading photos (I only took nine this week), I contemplate four very different Kenyans I have spent time with and reflect on their different lives / views
