Hi Tarks - about 1300 at the end of July... this was as light as it got. Had to rely on the physical environment for inspiration because the biota was over the horizon!!

Sure you continue to astound! This is really something else - it oozes calm & tranquility. And these are hardly humic waters? Glad you liked mine also - mind you it was the sea-fall that blew my mind. We had to get away from the ooohs & aahs of mountains for a day 'cause the legs were weary and the shoulders sore! Put up another couple of those this evening - wouldn't like folk to get impression 'Ah FT again, humphh! Scotland; another damn mountain....'
Canada now - you lucky devil! But sure it'll be an anti-climax after Dublin.....

PS - said under yr Teallach comment - no cropping of people - us three on the ridge all day and we met ONE other!!

I'm afraid I'm not quite that degree of purist J, two wheels will always scare the living **** out of me on a slippy surface!

This is quite magical.  I'm not sure how I managed to miss it but finding it tonite was a treat indeed.  Travelling over ice has much the same effect on me as travelling through tunnels - I'm sure Mother Nature didnt intend me to be there.  However, in the case of tunnels, they reveal - at the end - the most spectacular places... Madeira, Spain, Iran, Italy, the Rocky Mountains and thats just the places I can recall at this time of night and after a glass or two of a very good Rioja..

    Hi, Dr G.

We travelled sort of semi independently, if you know what I mean. We booked flights with Etihad, from Manchester, via Abu Dhabi. The were pretty good value, and convenient times. We also pre booked our 1st night in Sri Lanka, at the Tamarind Tree hotel, close to  the airport, but also handy for the coastal lagoons. From there we travelled independently to Sinharaja. We hadn't booked a lodge, and the only one we could find with any rooms available was the Blue Magpie - in fact all the rooms there were available. Don't go there!

We used trains. busses and taxis, all pretty good. Food was wonderful everywhere, even at the Blue Magpie.

We had pre booked 3 nights at Yla Village Lodge ( wedding anniversary treat) but other than that, did our own itinerary.

Guides were "picked up" at each reserve, usually athe reserve entrance. They varied from brilliant at Sinharaja, to mediocre at Yala.

    Cheers.

    George

I wondered whether this topic might tempt you in. Minus 40! What must the windchill have been like on those things?
