Sheer Lunacy by DrG
Not my cup of tea, but this facade, a Melbourne icon in St Kilda and the gateway to Luna Park, is just so striking. Plenty of great cake shops and cafes to hang out in and people watch from around the corner

So much colour! I went there about 10 years ago, and it does not look to have changed.

The face looks a bit like John Terry - OK, only a bit! Dr G., of course I will win the lottery and you will be more than welcome to visit my new abode in Annecy, in the meantime, you're more than welcome to join me for a pint of Boddies in the Chaddie Arms. Cheers. George.

HiI believe you can get out on Yellowstone Lake, they certainly run boat trips from the end of May. Apparently it was still frozen the week before we got there. However, they say that it is extremely deep and cold and that quick changes in weather can make it extremely choppy and dangerous. It is a massive lake pretty much filling up where the volcano originally erupted. There is loads of water in the park. They insist on you keeping to the boardwalks in the geothermal area because the springs are boiling hot and some are acid and people have been badly burnt sometimes. Besides which the crust on the ground is fragile and thin! I saw a marina so people must take their boats and kayaks out somewhere, I think there is a certain part of the lake that they use. In fact, come to think of it I saw a trailer loaded with kayaks so you must be able to get onto it. The famous cutthroat trout are in the lake and they are trying really hard to protect them as brown trout have somehow been introduced and they are a threat to the cutthroat trout. I am sure you would find the place fascinating, loads of hikes, lots of water. However, to stay in the park itself you have to book way ahead. loads of campgrounds and RV parks as well as lodges and bit more up market hotels. Some have cabins which are a bit small but perfectly adequate, that is what we stayed in at Yellowstone Lake. All accommodation is run by Xanterra, I contacted them by Skype to book our photo safari and all our dinners although everything else I did through Trailfinders. I have another lake tucked away which I will post eventually. Thought I would trickle them in rather than overload.

George, that's uncanny.... I'd never looked at the Luna facade in that light... but now you mention it! I'm venturing north to Manchester and Todmorden later in the month. You'll have to direct me toward the Chaddie. Cheers!
