Perfect poise and pose... by DrG
The diminutive little bee-eater doesn’t hold back on the colours. Several of these bobby dazzlers used the track from camp in Meru to hawk insects on the thermals above the ruts

Ok, ok! I just cant' compete - I give in! You will just have to take me on your next expedition!!!!!!!! Absolutely beautiful bird.
'Surfing sanderling'. Thanks for your expertise. I didn't think that it could be a lesser yellowleg because of its size but it was one of the closest in looks - could it be a spotted sandpiper - although I can't see any thing resembling spots but looks like it in my Bird Watcher's Guide to Pigeon Island (St Lucia)? The 'sanderling' was on its own & loved following the waves in & out. Regarding cropping etc - I have a facility on my camera to enlarge my pics - & so I have slightly enlarged the original. I wanted to show the bubbles off on the surf. (Sony DSC-HX1) G

Absolutely beautiful bird and photo. Must be in your genes, although having said that, this one did oblige by sitting still, unlike most hummingbirds ;-)

Thanks you two.... It wasn't sitting still until I stuck it on one of those handy thorns.... ;-)

Gorgeous! I could almost believe you'd skewered it if I didnt know the hours you'll spend in the most precarious places to get the shot! There's dedication! thanks for it tho

Beautiful. What more can I say?

Leaves me speechless! Absolutely top class! The low depth of field makes it stand out superbly from the background.
Occasionally I have wished to award six stars. This one deserves seven!

Here is one, for a start. Unfortunately it is in German, but most of the interviews are in English, which you can hear in the background. http://www.ardmediathek.de/ard/servlet/content/3517136?documentId=3971992

This has been one of my very favourite birds since the first time we saw one back in 2001. This is a charming portrait!
