One Tree Hill by DrG

A wide angle (10mm) shot from the slope below One Tree Hill accentuating the curving railing. It is the hydra-like branch array of the tree to the right which always draw me to this spot. Not as stunning as the chestnuts elsewhere, but a much quieter location and place to ponder

Helen, here are the words from the poem on One Tree Hill in Greenwich Park. They are carved in capital letters:

HERE FAIR ELIZA, VIRGIN QUEEN

FROM BUSINESS FREE, ENJOY'D THE SCENE

HEREOFT IN PENSIVE MOOD SHE STOOD

AND KINDLY PLAN'D FOR BRITAIN'S GOOD:

SO RECORD TELLS AND THIS BESIDE,

SUNG DITTIES TO THE SILVERTIDE

FULL WORTH SUCH HONOURS ART THOU STILL,

BELOV'D OF THOUSANDS, ONE TREE HILL

I went to Greenwich Park for the first time this year and loved it.

Wonder how many other trees have a piece of history behind them/poetry linked to them!

I should have said the one tree of One Tree Hill is actually a plane and is the yellowest looking one here with a lone figure sat beneath it. Other beech trees have grown up to obscure the one tree status.

Looks a beautiful spot.

Yes, my Gokyo Ri photos, lots of them, were on the old MyWanderlust site, but got badly corrupted with the change over.

I'd reposted a few after seeing Ukdani's fantastic pictures of the same area, with liquid water in Gokyo Lake!
