Desert - love the wide open wilderness of the Atacama, New Mexico, Utah and anywhere else dry and dusty where life is well hidden, but it's always there

What was your first great travel experience?
Living in Dubai in the days when there was a camel on the runway, there was one store and electricity for only a few hours a day. The vibrancy and colour of that magnificent trading port has been lost, buried beneath concrete

Rafting the Grand Canyon
