The world according to austinmini
Mountain/Desert/Ocean/Jungle... which one are you?
Mountain. Though must be said I love lakes located with mountains nearby but overall there is something so majestic about a mountain with its grandeur and natural but potentially very dangerous beauty. They remind me of how insignificant I am in this world.
What was your first great travel experience?
Probably camping around Norway and Sweden with my parents as a child. I don't remember very much but what I can remember of the scenery is fantastic
What has been your favourite journey?
Other than when my husband and I moseyed down the Mosel Valley in Germany I would have to say both my favourite and most memorable journey was my journey to Tours for Eurocamp. A 12hour overnight crossing from Portsmouth to St. Malo had been organised and then a series of 3 trains: St. Malo - Rennes(TGV) - Le Mans -Tours. I was met by 23 others, we got drunk on the ferry and nursed our hangovers chasing trains. Fun and Madness!
What are your Top 5 places worldwide?
Amsterdam - People often only think of the drug culture and red light district, when actually it's a city steeped in history and is a very pretty and friendly one at that!
Wast Water - Untouched beautiful mountains, landslides and a lake , what more could you want?!
Norway Fjords,
Edinburgh,
The Vorarlberg region of Austria
Recommend a special place to stay
If you ever visit Western Austria and enjoy camping (or even if you don't) I highly recommend staying at Camping Grosswalsertal ( http://www.camping-grosswalsertal.at/camping/ ). I used to visit on a yearly basis with my family as a child and I returned after 15 years with my husband a few years ago. This site has excellent hotel worthy facilites, an outdoor pool, it's friendly and small, and most importantly has excellent views across the mountains. Another bonus it's located to nearby Bludenz
Which three items do you always pack?
Camera,
Book (Has to be a paper book, not into electronic books, they just don't have the same feel) and
iPod / iPhone - lost without it as can do so much with it!
Which passport stamp are you proudest of?
Sadly I've not yet been anywhere I've required my passport stamped. I had hoped I'd get one at Iceland as it's not part of the EU but sadly I didn't. Have plans to change this!
Which passport stamp would you most like to have?
Antartica
Window or aisle?
Aisle (I don't like the feeling of being closed in/ trapped)
