The world according to abslakin

Mountain/Desert/Ocean/Jungle... which one are you?
Definitely ocean, I was brought up on the Isle of Wight and love being able to see the horizon.

What was your first great travel experience?
Sailing an optimist (tiny bath tub size boat) from the Isle of Wight to Portsmouth, I didn't tell anyone I was going and just went. I was only 12. It took 3 hours and I was nearly flattened by a cruise liner...but I will never forget it and its my first of many solo adventures.

What has been your favourite journey?
Motobiking through Laos, stunning scenery, friendly people and delicious food!

What are your Top 5 places worldwide?
Zanzibar, Java, Isle of Wight, Laos and Okavango Delta (despite the last 2 being landlocked)

Recommend a special place to stay
Tugu Park Hotel, Malang (East Java), its an amazing boutique hotel, stuffed with antiques, super friendly staff and great value. It was once in tatlers best 100 places to stay and still should be. Just trust me on this one and stay there.

Which three items do you always pack?
tiger balm, notebook and kikoy.

Which passport stamp are you proudest of?
Heathrow, it took ages to persuade immigration (I am english and they didn't understand why I wanted one) but it completed my round the world trip.

Which passport stamp would you most like to have?
Mongolia - I am heading up there next July for the Nadaam Festival.

Where or what is your guilty travel pleasure?
Massages, I love trying different ones from different countries, luckily living in Vietnam, they are cheap as chips!
