Yes, it is August already - what does it bring?

...by the looks of it yet more rain! Was it raining on St Swithin's Day by any chance?

Seems that this summer is a bit of a wash-out, as more rain is forecast and it is definitely cooler here in the Shires, but at least those of us who don't have anywhere else to go have the Olympics to watch!

What are the rest of you doing this month?

Off to Dublin for a week towards the end of the month, then over to gorgeous Suffolk. (Looking forward to both, but still glued to the telly at the moment.)

Probably heading north next week so will be visiting folks in Trawden before taking in the southern Lakes and Lancaster for work. Windermere and Esthwaite beckon. Westerest Wales on 'the way' back down to catch up with MrG and maybe do a spot of mackerel fishing and chough watching on the coast.
Later, I'm doing another road trip through the chunnel to Calais and across to Brest for a conference - I was there in 96 for a two day conference and cannot remember anything worthwhile about the place. Seems nobody else on here can tell me anything worthy either.... so will escape asap and wend back at a slower pace, stopping wherever we fancy.
Sneaking in at the very end of the month, me'n'MrsG are taking time out in Florida... so plenty of watery escapism, paddling the backwaters.
Stay well in the Shires BB!

I'm still in France until mid-month, escaping the Olympics.  I must admit I would quite like to have seen the opening ceremony, but the hotel we were in didn't have a channel with it on.  ()They managed to find golf from somewhere on the Sports channel!  I doubt that I would have been moved to histrionics, although it does sound as if it was a good'un.

Seen a lot about French gold medals - not seen anything about UK ones?  Haven't we won any?  What's going on?

We're in Chamonix at the moment and it's hot, hot, hot!  I'd forgotten just how hot France could be.  Probably moving on Southwards in a day or two ...

I was lucky enough to get tickets for the Olympics next week, watching the athletics (men's 200m & triple jump heats).

At the end of the month I'll be off to France again, taking my boy on holiday, looking forward to it, great to see some sun at long last.

I'm writing this from Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe side, and I have about a week left before I head back to the UK. But I only have a couple of weeks to wait and then I'm off to New York City for my birthday.

Started the month in Croatia (hopping across into Bosnia from time to time - once to visit Mostar, the rest of the time just to get through the coastal corridor) -  and I've just arrived in Montenegro for another week. Would like to have a peep in Albania if possible ...

For me August dawned in El Salvador, and has already taken me to Nicaragua and Costa Rica.  For the rest of the month I stay at home, dreaming and planning.
