    Towns with Funny Names

My post on unfortunately named products from around the world generated a lot of comments about towns with funny names so I thought I may as well set up a forum post dedicated to the towns with names that make them fun to visit, but embarrassing to live in.

    Let rip below!

We had this a couple of month's ago in the forum. My favourite place name is still Pratt's Bottom; I wonder if there are any more weird and wonderful names out there?

There are some very embarrassing place names, street names, and business names in Hong Kong (I blush to think of some of them) with various combinations of two or more of the following words:

Wan Kok Man Fook King Fat Po

I'll leave the rest to your imagination!

I know it's not the name of a town but, while walking round the old town walls of Tallinn in Estonia, we came across this tower/museum (see here) called Kiek in de Kök – sounds quite painful!

It makes you wonder if there are British place names which are funny/ embarrassing words in other languages.

Good point Steve - we always think of silly placenames in English, but they must exist in other languages too. The only one that springs to mind isn't embarrassing or anything though, just confusing. The town of Vers in France...vers means 'towards', so signs to the town just say 'Towards...'. Nearly as confusing as the 'Toutes directions' alongside 'Autres directions'...
