Woman searches for herself in hunt for missing person

31st August 2012

A tourist visiting Iceland ended up on a hunt to find a missing person when in fact the search was actually for her

The woman set about aiding the recovery mission but did not realise they were searching for her.

The lost tourist described as Asian, 160cm tall, wearing dark clothing and fluent in English was announced as missing from her tour group. The group were visiting the Eldgja volcanic region in southern Iceland on Saturday.

The search was initiated after the lady changed her clothes off the bus and when she got back on the bus the passengers did not recognise her and therefore thought she was missing.

Once the group thought that the woman had been lost they gave a description yet the uncanny likeness was not recognised by the woman. So they began a search with the emergency services to find the lost traveller.

The search was conducted tirelessly through the night and 50 people were involved in trying to find the missing tourist. At around 3am on Sunday morning the woman finally realised she was in fact looking for herself and subsequently informed the emergency services.

It seems that Iceland really is a great place to rediscover ones self and also a great place to lose yourself.
