UPDATED: Meet the winners of this year's Wanderlust World Guide Awards and check out video footage from the ceremony here
Last night saw Intrepid Travel's outstanding guide Bruno Dawsan awarded the World Guide Award 2011.
Bruno was last year's Bronze Award winner and with his bursary he sponsored a local girl to study music at university. As well as supporting five students from a local village for six months' training in computer studies. He has said his bursary will go towards helping more local, disadvantaged people benefit from further education.
Winner of the Silver Award, Dragoman's Gaetano Barone is set to help community projects in India or Nepal – he's not quite sure which yet!
And winner of the Bronze Award, Kevin Albin said of his bursary, “There is a new sun bear sanctuary being built in Sepilok in Borneo, adjacent to the well-funded orangutan sanctuary. Sun bears are losing habitat due to deforestation as well as being sold as pets, only to be abandoned later when they become too big.
“The sanctuary needs funding, so I would like to donate my bursary.”
As well as their bursaries from Wanderlust, the three winning guides were also awarded with gear from Swarovski, Nomad and Powertraveller.
