WANDERLUST EDITOR DAN LINSTEAD IN CONVERSATION WITH BBC WORLD AFFAIRS
CORRESPONDENT JOHN SIMPSON
Thursday 4 February
Theatre 1
In the competitive world of foreign affairs reporting, a nose for the right place at the right time is invaluable. John Simpson's remarkable gut instincts have drawn him into the thick of the action time and time again, and earned him scoops which are the envy of his colleagues. His most recent, and most demanding, major foreign assignment saw him smuggled into Afghanistan as the Taleban fell, disguised as a woman.
One of his first assignments was in Angola, covering the vicious fighting there in the 1970s - an experience he describes as the most terrifying of his career.
He has witnessed 30 years of upheaval in all corners of the globe, but John Simpson has no thoughts ofretiring. "It's a way of life," he says.
DAVID SHUKMAN, AUTHOR OF LIVE FROM THE END OF THE WORLD, HOSTED BY DAN LINSTEAD

The book follows David Shukman's unique journey to the world's environmental hotspots -- from the Arctic to the Amazon to Antarctica. It lays bare the realities -- and mishaps -- of broadcasting live for a global television audience from some of the strangest and most hostile corners of the planet.
Hopelessly seasick on a Norwegian whaling ship, stranded in a tent in Greenland, hounded by the insects of the rainforest -- this is a humorous, warts-and-all account of intrepid reporting from locations few journalists have visited.

SIMON REEVE, AUTHOR, PRESENTER, TRAVELLER HOSTED BY DAN LINSTEAD
Sunday 7 February
Theatre 1
After a series of terrible jobs, including working in a supermarket, a jewellery shop, and a charity shop, Simon finally found gainful employment as a postboy at a national newspaper. Still in his teens, he sorted the mail during the day, and began researching and writing in his spare time. His 'big break' came when he found two foreign terrorists on the run in the UK, and he began conducting investigations for the newspaper into subjects such as arms-dealing, nuclear smuggling, terrorism and organised crime.
"Thanks to globalisation, events, issues and problems in far-off countries can have a direct impact on the cozy lives of those of us lucky enough to live in the West," he says. "So why don't we try to find out a little bit more about those issues, and try to resolve them - before they become major problems for all of us?"
