Turkey to tighten up visa rules
1st February 2012
Turkey to enforce a maximum stay of 90 days in any 180-day period for British nationals
From 1 February, visitors will only be allowed to stay in Turkey for a total of 90 days in any 180 day window.
If travellers plan to remain in Turkey for more than 90 days, they must enquire about longer-stay visas from their Turkish Embassy, before arrival to the country.
Alternatively, if in Turkey already and reaching the 90 day limit, enquiries should be made at the Foreigners Police Department (Yabancilar Sube) before the expiry date.
Although this is not a new rule, it has not been rigorously enforced, as Turkish immigration authorities were operating a more flexible interpretation.
Visitors are warned to be careful not to overstay. Expired visas are taken very seriously by the Turkish authorities and could lead to being fined, detained, deported and even banned from re-entering Turkey.
