Travel chaos is snow joke
2nd February 2009
The UK has once again ground to an almost complete halt as a result of a snowstorm.
Heavy overnight snow showers have led to London City and Luton airports shutting and caused both runways at Heathrow to be temporarily closed.
BAA has warned passengers at Heathrow and Stansted airports to expect "significant delays and cancellations". Over 600 flights have now been cancelled at Heathrow including all BA flights until 5pm.
A Cyprus Airways flight from Larnaca caused a scare at Heathrow by taxiing into the grass at the side of the runway, however all passenagers and crew were unhurt.
There are also major delays at Gatwick, Norwich and Southampton.
If you’re flying today or tomorrow, you’re advised to check with your airline before travelling to the airport.
