Tickets go on sale for London's The View from The Shard
6th July 2012
Tickets went on sale this morning for The View from The Shard, London's newest landmark and Western Europe's tallest building, which will be opening next year
The building was inaugurated last night, marking the completion of the exterior of the building, with a laser light show accompanied by classical music.
The Shard stands at over 1,000ft tall, offers 360 degree views of the city and will act as both a tourist attraction and house offices, ten residences, a five star, 200-bed luxury hotel and three floors of restaurants. When opened, it will be the highest vantage point from any building in Western Europe and nearly twice the height of any other viewing point in London.
A spokesperson for The View from The Shard said that: “It enables you to experience the whole of London, there is no other place in London like it.”
“It's more than just a view,” it is to be “a multi-century journey from street level up,” allowing visitors to “engage with the diverse tapestry of London.”
Abdullah Saoud Al-Thani, Governor of Qatar Central Bank, which co-owns the Shard, said: “The Shard is the newest London landmark and a beacon of the city of London's resilience and expansion, even during tough economic times.”
Two high-speed 'kaleidoscopic' elevators will lift visitors to the 69th level in only 30 seconds. Panoramic views across London will stretch up to 40 miles, from 800ft high. Multimedia displays, installations and digital telescopes will be on show for when the weather is murky.
The telescopes will allow visitors to look deeper into areas of London and include features that will display information about the buildings, the history of London, and what the areas look like at different times of day.
Ticket holders will be able to choose a pre-booked arrival slot, one of the key features of The View from The Shard, giving visitors a “queue-free and crowd-free experience”.
A spokesperson for the London Bridge Quarter commented that the hotel aspect of the building set to open in early 2013. The View from The Shard will open on 1st February 2013. Tickets can be bought from the official website: theviewfromtheshard.com and cost from £24.95 for adults and £18.95 for children. The View from The Shard is located close to London Bridge Tube Station.
