China is still not issuing travel permits for Tibet, over a month after it once again barred foreign travellers from entering the disputed region.
In late September, China stopped issuing travel permits, initially claiming this was due to demand. It then denied that it was preventing travellers from entering Tibet at all.
However, local reports said permits had been stopped in a bid to ensure the National Day celebrations on 1 October passed without any incident.
Despite the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office claiming the ban would be lifted on 10 October, it’s still in place and there is no indication of when it might end.
