Snow joke for Australia
22nd October 2008
Severe weather has battered Australia’s east coast with New South Wales bearing the brunt of freezing temperatures, hail and snow.
With summer approaching, Sydney is usually recording temperatures of 22 degrees centigrade, with Brisbane enjoying temperatures of 25 degrees. However Brisbane has been bombarded by storms so fierce that over 15,000 homes have been left without electricity.
Further south, in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, temperatures have plummeted. Record lows of two degrees have been recorded and the national park has been hit by snow, which has only occurred five times in the past 50 years.
Last year almost 700,000 Brits visited Australia. Bu if you’re heading off hoping for Antipodean sunshine, don’t despair, as weather reports predict the cold spell will be short lived.
