It’s not just European trips that are offering good value as the Pound continues to rise against other world currencies
Following on from our previous news story about how European trips are offering a rise in value for the traveller thanks to the Sterling’s strong performance against the Euro, it seems other destinations are seeing an equal rise in value.
According to foreign exchange specialist, Moneycorp, the Pound has strengthened against a raft of international currencies. Although the solid performance against the Euro has grabbed most of the headlines, the Pound is 18% up on the Indian Rupee and 17.7% up on the Brazilian Real since May 2011.
Other destinations that have seen a big increase in value thanks to a stronger Pound include South Africa (up 14%) and Sri Lanka (up 15%).
Heading to Poland for the Euro 2012 championships? One Pound already buys nearly 16% more Polish Zloty than it did this time last year.
Alex Lawson, senior broker at Moneycorp commented, “Sterling has gained against a number of other currencies in the last year and this shouldn't be overlooked as people consider their holiday options. 18% on the Indian Rupee, 17.7% on the Brazilian Real and just over 14% on the Rand gives anyone heading off to those countries significantly more purchasing power."
