Museum of Broken Relationships returns to Zagreb
6th October 2010
An exhibition featuring an axe, a wedding dress and an artificial leg
All sounds rather odd, doesn’t it? The collection comprises items that, once a couple have split up, they no longer want or need. The artists behind the exhibition, Olinka Vistica and Drazen Grubisic developed the idea after their own romance ended.
The Metro quoted Olinka as saying, “We put all our objects together and then asked our friends. People started donating items. Soon we had a trailer full of objects.”
A short note accompanies each exhibit. The axe, donated by a woman who chopped up her ex lover’s furniture, is accompanied by a note which says, ‘The more her room filled up with chopped up furniture, the more I started to feel better.’
The prosthetic leg was donated by a man after his romance with a nurse fizzled out.
The exhibition has just finished a world tour and is now back in Croatia, where the founders want to find a permanent venue.
