Iconic Travel Bookshop goes up for sale
1st June 2011
The iconic Travel Bookshop in Notting Hill, which has been running for just over 30 years, is being sold to new owners
Some may remember the bookshop based on it in the 1999 romantic comedy Notting Hill; owned by Hugh Grant's bumbling character, William Thacker. Others may simply have come to know it as their favourite literary haunt, home to a cornucopia of travel writing.
Established in 1979, the Travel Bookshop in Blenheim Crescent, has become well known as a one stop shop for travel writing, selling everything from copies of Wanderlust magazine to the essential guidebook, to the memoirs of valiant adventurers. Despite its intimate size, It holds regular talks and events.
For the last 25 years the shop has been run by its present owner who is based in France. According to The Bookseller, a spokesperson for the shop has said that the owner wishes to sell it onto a new generation of owners as his children do not wish to carry it on.
