FCO advises against Honduras
28th September 2009
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised against all but essential travel to Honduras.
The FCO says the ‘unpredictable’ situation in the country has led to its advice change.
Honduras has been hit by political turmoil for several months following a coup in June and the subsequent exile of then-president Manuel Zelaya.
Last week, Zelaya clandestinely returned to the Honduran capital Tegucigalpa and is currently barricaded in the Brazilian Embassy.
The army has been deployed onto the streets of Tegucigalpa and a curfew is in place.
International flights in and out of Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula International airports have also been affected. The FCO advises anyone travelling through Honduras to contact their airline or tour operator for further advice.
