Eiffel Tower turns down lights
21st October 2008
The management of the Eiffel Tower are helping the planet and cutting their energy bills by halving its nightly light show.
20,000 flashing light bulbs were installed on the iconic Parisian landmark in January 2000 and have twinkled for ten minutes on the hour every hour ever since.
Now the lights will only light up for five minutes every hour.
The tower’s management say the move is more symbolic than money saving, as the lights only use a small amount of energy.
