After more than 150, 000 miles at sea, skipper, writer and photographer Andy Dare figured it was time he had some adventures on land. Following months touring Brazil, Peru and Bolivia, he to decided to winter in Cusco, Peru. Cusco marks the end of the rail line and is leaping-off point on the pilgrimige to Machu Picchu for thousands of travelers each year.
Cusco and the region were devastated recently by flooding and mudslides, brought on by the heaviest rainfall in 15 years. Parts of the iconic Inca trail were closed and a dramatic airlift rescue operation ensued to transport thousands of stranded travelers to safety.
As well as participating in a relief operation, Andy captured images of the diaster and the aftermath.
