Phoebe Smith

Wanderlust magazine editor Phoebe Smith is as passionate about travel as she is about the outdoors. She likes nothing better than discovering a place on foot, gazing over giant precipices for fun and wild camping – preferably in the mountains.

With a passion for writing, being a journalist came naturally to her, so she delights in really getting under the skin of a place, immersing herself in the local culture, learning about the native wildlife and of course walking.

She’s worked on and writes for a range of newspapers and magazines in the UK, Canada, Australia and the USA. She’s author of several books including Extreme Sleeps: Adventures of a Wild Camper, which charts her quest to explore the remote places of Britain – with just a trusty tent in tow and a walking guidebook to The Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path (Cicerone). In 2013 she was shortlisted for the Visit England Award for Excellence in travel writing for an article she wrote for Wanderlust magazine about the Peak District. Check out an extract from it here.

Seeking adventure wherever she finds herself is what drives her, and you’ll often find Phoebe on Twitter (@PhoebeRSmith) sharing her latest escapades with the hashtag #GetOutside.
