The smell of rotten eggs hangs over myWanderlust this week

And the Wanderlust offices too. Our intrepid editorial assistant, Clare, is back from her journey to the centre of the earth in Iceland last week, and things are still a little, shall we say, sulphuric.

Hopefully you've already read all about her adventure into the bowels of the Thrihnukagigur volcano. If not, pop over to Just Back From and check it out right now. You too will want to be lowered into a volcano on a window cleaner's rig. I guarantee it. She visited other parts of Iceland too and gives her tips on what to do (and not do) over at Just Back From. Claire has also posted a couple of pics over at the Photography section too. Luckily the new issue of the magazine isn't on deadline. Yet.

Meanwhile, over at the Forum, Howellsy has picked up the Olympic baton and asked myWanderlusters about their sporting travels – sporting events they travelled to see, happened upon or inadvertently took part in. I believe sport can give a real insight into a place and it seems a lot of other myWanderlusters agree. Have you got a sporting tale to tell? Tell it here.

Which reminds me of the time I was wandering the back streets of Karachi and came upon an impromptu game of street cricket. On learning that I was an Aussie, the young boys tossed me the ball and asked me to bowl. My first delivery went down leg side. But my second clean bowled the batsmen, a lad of about 15. I had the good sense to walk away at the point, leaving the boys nodding there heads in awe, convinced that all Aussies can bowl like Glen McGrath.

But I digress. Also on the Forum, Liz Cleere has taken my post about unfortunately named products by the scruff of the neck and taken it down into the gutter with talk about slapper shoes from Mombasa and S'melles insoles from France. As usual with Liz, it makes required reading.

Over at Just Back From Chocolateyclaire sings the praise of Kotor in Montenegro. DavidRoss is back from Northern Ireland, impressed by the Giant's Causeway and the political murals of Belfast (make sure you read his story about Titanic Belfast over at Experiences too). Sara Manuel reveals the best place to spot pods of dolphins in Lagos, Portugal. Bilbo Baggins reveals the best place to sit on a balcony all day in Lake Bled, Solvenia. And davkt reveals the best tiny winemakers in the Napa valley.

Experiences, and Bilbo Baggins takes visitors of a walking tour of her hometown, Ludlow, Liz Cleere celebrates life in slow lane on Bolgatty Island and Rhoda1 gives us her take on Kolkata. Hmoat01 is under siege at Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. And Howellsey encounters condors at the canyon. All worth checking out.

The old hands are back at the photography galleries this week. Jamie Furlong treats us to a wonderful set of photos from Kuzhupilly. Rhoda1 spoils us with some stunning pics from Kolkata. And Peterj2002 turns his lens on a subject closer to home, Bradford on Avon. Red pepper takes us on a photographic tour of Burma. And finally Bilbo Baggins takes us by the hand, photographically speaking, through Aberaeron.

Finally, one for the pendants. The photo of the volcano at the top of this post? It was taken in Indonesia not Iceland. And the photographer was jackiellis.

Just so you know that I know.
