Work experience & internships
Keen to gain experience in magazine publishing? Find out if a placement at Wanderlust is for you
Work experience: editorial
Wanderlust receives many more requests for editorial work experience than we can fulfil. Because of this, preference is usually given to applicants who:
- Are on – or have successfully completed – a recognised journalism course, or who have already had some relevant experience
- Are regular readers of Wanderlust
- Are serious about pursuing a career in magazines or online
Placements are usually one or two weeks in length. Successful candidates are expected to work Wanderlust’s usual office hours (9am to 5.30pm, possibly later in busy periods) and need to be prepared to turn their hands to anything.
We offer both print and online placements, please state if you have a preference in your application. Tasks for the magazine will usually include fact-checking, research, sub-editing and editorial administration.
Tasks for the web will usually include uploading content, research and administration with the possibility of some writing tasks. Placements offer an excellent opportunity for someone who wants an insight into all aspects of magazine/online editorial and production.
However, note that they are not suitable for aspiring travel writers.
Applications should be in writing, enclosing a CV, marked for the attention of Tom Hawker, Wanderlust Publications, Leworth Place, Mellor Walk, Windsor SL4 1EB. Please do not apply by email.
